United gave chances to three trialists in the game with Farsley AFC on 6th August 2011. Felix Luz, a Twenty-Nine-Year-old German striker with some experience in the lower reaches of the Bundesliga. His last club was Rot-Weiss Oberhausen, where injuries restricted his appearances and his contact ran out at the end of the 2010-11 season. Ibrahim Maaroufi a Twenty-two-rear-old Belgian-born midfielder of Moroccan descent who payed at Under-Twenty-One for Belgium and at Under-Twenty-Three for Morocco. Dennis Grote, an almost Twenty-five-Year-Old Outside-Left who had played for Vfl Bocum before being on loan with Rot-Weiss Oberhausen at the same time as Felix Luz. He was capped by Germany at Under-Nineteen, Twenty and Under-Twenty-One levels. It was a strong Leeds line-up with Alex Bruce, Aidan White and Mike Grella all having first team experience. The home side's task was not made any easier when the lost David Briggs after less than ten minutes and Andy Cooper had to come on as substitute in midfield. It was suspected he had broken a bone in his lower leg and had to be stretchered from the field after being treated by both teams' physios. When the game got under way again Leeds pressed and Charlie Taylor and Mike Grella both went close with shots from the edge of the box. It was Mike Grella that opened the scoring in the thirty-third minute when he ran onto a through ball to shoot past Tom Morgan, the Farsley keeper. Four minutes later it was 2-0 as Felix Luz latched onto a lofted pass to score with a strong shot into the top corner. Farsley rallied and Steve Mallory beat Alex Cairns with a shot from thirty yards only to see it clip the crossbar and go over the top. Three minutes before half-time it was Felix Lux that got his second for Leeds when he headed home to establish a three goal lead. Farsley brought on Tom Taylor in goal for Tom Morgan at the start of the second half and took the game to Leeds in the early stages. Leeds made a double change in the fifty-second minute when Will Hatfield replaced a tired Ibrahim Maaroufi, who did not seem fit and had failed to impress, and Joe McCann came on for Mike Grella. Six minutes later Farsley made their own double substitution with Tom Jackson replacing Ryan Serrant at left-back and James Sutcliffe replaced Ryan Watson. There was a further change in the sixty-fourth minute as Mark Bett came on for Duncan Williams. This had an instant effect as Bett combined well with Gareth Grant and resulted in Grant getting in a shot that stung the fingers of Alex Cairns in the Leeds goal but he was able to palm the ball away for a corner. However, Leeds made it 4-0 in the seventy-fourth minute after Tom Taylor had parried a shot but the ball fell to Felix Luz who secured his third goal of the game by tapping in the rebound. He had completed an impressive hat-trick and his last two goals had come after good work from his German compatriot, Dennis Grote, who had also impressed on the left flank. After the goal Conar Qualter replaced Alex Bruce in central defence before, with five minutes left on the clock, Leeds made a tripple change with strikers Simon Lenighan coming on for Zac Thompson and Dominic Poleon for trialist Felix Lux while Sanchez Payne replaced the second German trialist, Dennis Grote, as Leeds ran out easy winners.
